Thanks guys. Wanted to check this out again this lunchtime, but all clouded out again.
The image scale is scary but I remember two years ago shortly after I received the PST that there was a truly massive prominence. It was easily three times longer than this one. Now that really was a sight to behold!

Great image Trevour! Very dynamic. How do you calculate th Earth size??

Hi Dave,
I took the angular size of the Sun to be 30 arcminutes and with a diameter 110 times that of the Earth. So if the Earth were in the shot it would be 32/110 arcminutes in width.
Then from Wodaski's ccd calc app we have an image scale of the Webcam (with the Sony ICX chip) on the PST as 2.88 arcsecs/pixel.
So that gives a pixel size for our fictional Earth as
2.88 arcsec/pix * Earth width = 32X60/110 arcseconds
Earth Width = 5.7 arcseconds
& now it's 5 times that figure to deal with the Powermate. So I just set the width of the globe to around 28 pixels.
Couldn't think of another way to do it until I remembered that image scale stat that Wodaski's calculator gave.
