Paul - a suspected Nova was discovered in M33 on Sept 18th. See below. You may have captured it.
APPARENT NOVA IN M33
S. Nakano, Sumoto, Japan, reports the discovery by Fujio Kabashima (Miyaki-cho, Saga-ken, Japan) and Koichi Nishiyama (Kurume, Fukuoka-ken,
Japan) of an apparent nova (mag 17.1) in M33 on five unfiltered CCD frames (limiting mag 19.9) taken around Sept. 18.63 UT using a 40-cm f/9.8 reflector. The new object is located at R.A. = 1h33m58s.65, Decl. =
+30o57'34".2 (equinox 2000.0)

You can type those co-ords into Aladin and it'll pull up an image of the locality. I'm pretty sure you can save the image as weel - you can then do an overlay in your favourage processing software and see if you have capture the object. It could be good scientific data for the researches - especially if you caught it earler then they did. You migh have caught it when it was brighter for example...
If you need help, let me know.
Paul - what are the details of your image? Optics, imager and exposure time and if you used any filters...
Cheers

Oh my word! Well, the setup was my normal one - LXD75 with 6" Newt 750mm f5 and Minolta Dynax 5D set to ISO 3200 - no filters. Exposures were about 2 mins - I'll put the originals on my webspace when I go upstairs to the mainframe

Paul - sounds like that setup would able for mag 17 alright. If I get the chance over the weekend I'll have a look at your image and see if it turns up the nova.
Was the original recored as a JPG? Or another format? If you have the original frame, that would be perfect (ie no processing etc).
Cheers
