15 second exposure! was created by gbyrne
Hi All,
Using the Canon S3 IS, I was trying tonight to get some images using the 15 second exposure (Max exposure on this camera) but this was by hand at the eyepiece, but basically got nothing, so if I invest in the universal camera adapter, what should I be able to image apart from moon/planets, would any DSO's be possible at this exposure? or what mag would be possible to image?
If it is possible, does it make much of a difference imaging at the eyepiece or using a T adapter etc.. to connect the camera to the scope?
Cheers,
Gary

Hi
15 secs can be enough to get some bright dso.
I have found that imaging at an eyepiece is a big pain as it is essential that you have the camera precisely aligned with the eyepiece when you image otherwise you will get wonky looking smeared images. I think you are better off to image prime focus with a T-adaptor and save all the heartace and trouble.
Just my opinion though.

Gary you can get clamp type devices which hold a camera in place e.g.
