Dave,

Any thoughts on IEEE vs USB2 in general? I have the IEEE version since my laptop does not come with USB2 and I never pursued a PCMCIA card for such functionality since it is my understanding that IEEE is slightly better.

Hi Anthony,

In terms of raw specification USB Hi-Speed at 480 Mbps is a bit faster than Firewire (IEEE 1394) at 400 Mbps. I'm reliably imformed that the practice is just the reverse - IEEE 1394 will outperform USB2 in general. In either case the ability of your HDD to keep up with what is being thrown at it will be paramount.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, I agree that the HDD is the potential bottle-neck. My drive is 5400 RPM and I hope to know shortly how well the 30 and 60 fps rates will be accomodated by the new drive.

OPT in the US blew it on the cable they sent me (6-pin instead of the 4-pin) or otherwise I would be able to have first light with my DMK right now.

So which one of these cameras would be best suited for imaging the planets?

Are these suitable for deep sky imaging and how would they stack up against the DSI II and the Atik 16 IC cameras?

Thanks
Darragh
