Thats right Micheal, what a deal!!! I picked one up about three weeks ago. I think it is a pricing error, because if you go to the Argos site in the uk it is going for about 400 sterling.
My bad for not notifying you lot but it didn't thiink it relevant since you have to turn the USM option off for night time or bulb exposures.

A friend who went in to the Ilac Argos today was told by the shop assistant that they have experienced an influx of orders for this particular lens.
He said he couldn't imagine why............................................
BTW, for those of us who don't know, what is the significance of the USM being on/off :

This item was completely sold out in all of the Argos stores across Dublin last sunday. Liffey Valley Argos told me they were getting a new batch in today so I reserved one and picked it up this morning.

USM is Ultrasonic Motor, which as I understand, is simply the electronic focus. At night it's difficult to focus due to the lack of a suitable object to focus onto. Ideally, focus onto a distant object during the day, tape the focusing ring up with a bit of masking tape and that might hold focus for use later that night.BTW, for those of us who don't know, what is the significance of the USM being on/off :
