That's something I spent ages trying to decide upon. In fact I went through 3 sets of Manfrotto tripods before settling on one; The Manfrotto Triman 028 or 028B.
I had a 190B and a pro 055B before but found them way too rickety for my scope. The 028, however, is rock solid with far beefier legs & a thick centre column.
The only problem with the 028 is that it is far heavier than the 190, 055, etc, and doesn't fold down as much, but it can be extended way higher as well. It also worked well with a DSLR and 500mm lens with a large ball head.
It's more expensive though at just over €200 without a head.
