IMHO, that's very bad form.

I hope they send you both a free copy.

Cheers Mike,
actually, the S@N mag is the only one that doesn't send you a free copy if they use a shot.
:(

I would have never expected a free copy myself to be honest. But that's just me.

I agree fully it is very bad taste and in fact they are rather exclusive in this regard.

Almost every other magazines will send you at least one sample copy and, in some cases, a small cheque (ex. Astronomy Now, Astronomy Magazine) or coupon (ex. S&T). I never ask for renumeration for my work appearing in a magazine since I consider the appearance itself as ample renumeration but I think they should have the decensy to send you a sample copy containing your work.

If this is their way of getting you to subscribe, it is doing precisely the opposite (at least with me).

It is very frustrating to be in the dark (excuse the pun) and to hear from the goodwill of friends that something of yours has appeared. By the way, do I have anything in the December issue, for they asked for two (or was it three) of my images in hires?

What would it cost to give you a free calender ?
All the same, the honour is getting the image in there I suppose.

Dave,

I have been fortunate to have some of my work appear in books and never has a publisher forgotten to send me at least one sample copy. In fact, a few weeks ago I received three complementary copies of a book containing some of my work.

It is really low when a sample copy of a calendar, of all things, is not provided at all to a contributor.
