Here's Shuttle Atlantis on pad 39A at the Kennedy Space Center (sic) prepared for lift-off on Dec 6th....
Here's Orion and Canis Major much higher in the sky than we see them here - it really does look like the Hunter and his Dog!
And looking closer to the horizon - see the hind legs and tail of Canis Major - follow the line down to the horizon and just to the right of the lamppost twinkling away - that's Canopus, second brightest star in the sky and invisible from Ireland - in fact only just visible from Central Florida at 28.5 deg N.

Paul,
Neat photos and which bring back many memories. I spent three years in Florida due to business commitments and I remember the wonderful trips down Interstate 95 and to the Kennedy Space Center. The museum is awesome as is the large ground area with the standing rockets (Mercury, Gemini, Saturn V and many others)!
As for the Florida weather, the humidity is quite dominant and helps with the great seeing that this state is known for.
