My next scope is going to be a Vixen VMC200L Catadioptric OTA

"If anyone can, a cannon man can".
Most people i know use a Cannon of some kind for whatever they need/want it for.
I only updated from a Casio to a nikon in the last year or so, so i'll hang on to the Nikon for now. But i KNOW already that my next upgrade will be to Cannon.

As a happy Nikon owner I'm curious why you're so sure you want to move to Cannon? At this stage I've bought quite a few lenses at quite a price. I'd need a pretty compelling reason to change. If you're thinking of changing my advice is not to hang around too long ... a few lenses, some spare batteries, a cable release and a few more bits and bobs and soon you'll find yourself pretty tied to your choice.

I use a toucam pro for the planets and a canon 300D for the very occasional deepsky shot.

voyager my Nikon is only a digital "point and click" coolpix. I am EXTREMELY happy with it. I plan in the future to go into astro photgraphy a lot and i have seen stunning results using such cams as the Cannon EOS etc..............

Thank you all for your responses there's a lot of information there for me to digest. The information about the DSLRs was interesting because I was getting the wrong impression from other posts regarding a bulb setting, hence the question about the 30 sec exposure limit.
The webcam option looks like a very interesting half way house because of its low cost. I came across some instructions about converting an SPC900 and it looks very do-able. I would be interested to know how this compares to the Bresser ocular.
I think the CCD is a bit outside my budget at the moment David. I notice you have the colour version of the ATIK for sale at the moment and although it tugs at my heart I think I have to be sensible about all of this. Baby steps first methinks

The Philips SPC900 is the newer version of the Philips Toucam.
All you need to do is pop the lens off and attach an eyepiece adapter and an IR filter.
I got all 3 very cheaply on ebay.
I don't think it was more than 100 euro for the lot
I still have the seller details and if you want I can email them to you.
If you do buy the spc900 all you need after that is a scope that has tracking, a laptop and free software called Registax.
A 2x Barlow is also a good idea to get a big image.
