Newgrange was already ancient when the pyramids were being built in Egypt.

It is exactly 40 years (today Friday 21 Dec.) since Prof. O’Kelly discovered that the entrance passage points directly at the rising sun on winter solstice.

It is the world’s oldest known astronomical observatory.

The prehistoric people who built it are utterly unknown to history.
But no doubt genetically we are “them”.

You can see the sun’s rays shine right to the end of the passage live today 21st Dec. and tomorrow.

Work on excavating it only began in the early 60s' and was rebuilt to the interpretation we see today by the mid 70's.
