A challenge? was created by XULYKS
Well I'm putting this out there, and I know it's probably a bit of a longshot, but what the hey.
I was looking at saturn again tonight, trying my best to make out some moons, but to be honest didn't really get a good glimpse at any. This is what I'm seeing (not an actual image I took, just a representation of what I'm viewing )...
Anyway, I was wondering first of all if it's possible, and second of all, if anyone is up for it?
It's probably not as easy as I have it pictured in my head but.... to get an image of Saturn and the three galaxies M95, M9 and M105.
Like this...
So what's the verdict? Am I insane?

I can do it, but Saturn would be way overexposed as it is so bright compared to the 3 galaxies.

It can be done easily with a properly exposed Saturn and a properly exposed Galaxies image. Do a mask and layer in PhotoShop, much like i did with this Jupiter image. But Saturn image scale will be small. Would just look like a big star. By the way...also posted my best Saturn image.

Hi Greg,
You should easily be able to make out Titan at mag 8.4 with your Skylux, and possibly even Rhea at mag 9.8 (but maybe not!) Print out a zoomed in chart of Saturn's moons before you go out - and don't forget to turn the chart upside down so that it matches the view through the eyepiece!
Phil.

@Keith g:
I was thinking that saturns brightness compared to the others might be a problem
@woodwizard:
That image of saturn is amazing! I only hope I can someday get an image like that. Out of curiosity, what does saturn look like just simply looking at it through your telescope, rather than imaging it?
@Philip Lardner:
Thanks! Never thought of that, I'll try the printout next time!
One more question.... Is there much point in getting a 2x Barlow for the Skylux, or should I wait until I get a bigger scope for that? Brand new they seem to be around €50 which is almost as much as the telescope so I'm in no hurry to buy one anyway.
