Just goes to show how wet behind the ears i am to all this. I like that pic of Saturn. If it were my pic i'd be chuffed with it.

Hi,
When you capture the avi, it seems like you had a bad colour balance, its abit yellow, this is preventable before the capture by playing around between manual and automatic colour balance and seeing what it gives you, it can also be fixed in photoshop after registax.
it also looks like either your seeing of focus is bad.
Like Dave said above, focusing is all about practice.

your bang on with the color comment, the color is way off. the color balance is most likely due to my inadequate processing. I was just playing around with the color in registax, trying to get a yellow/brown color im used to seeing in pics of Saturn.

Hi Fintan,
What I would advise you to do is that when you are doing this, save the orig imige uncoloured if you know what I mean, then change the colour and save again and then re-adjust then save until you have atleast 6 images, then go have a cup of tea then come back and look at them all in rapid succession and select the best one, you'd be amazed at how you can see things differently when you take a break and then come back to it. :)

Thats exactly how saturn looked through my scope last night (but not as much cassini...or is that shadow?) except it was tilted back the other way for me. It was a pain in the ( Y ) to focus in any great way so i'd say it is a focusing issue you have there.

Trial and error Fintan, but never think of it as a 'bad' image when you're only testing the waters. Sure, its colour is off, focus is off, and the brightness depth is off (they're all obvious, right? :D), but heck, I'd still be pleased with it on my own learning curve if I were you. Is this with your 6 inch reflector? If so, don't go execting something akin to what you see some guys here with an 8 or 10/12 inch reflector can get. Know your limits, and keep learning. For me, I think you're off to a winning start for that ultimate Saturn image of yours!
