I was imaging tonight with my 350D, and the only reason I am still not outside now is the dew.

Steve,
you brought up the topic, now I am chiming in. Is there a way to successfullt makeshift a dewshield for something as small as a camera lens? What comes to mind as a really makeshift solution is a paper tube perhaps lined with papertowel. Does that sound a bit naff?

Cheap and nasty but if it works then happy days. I use cardboard for the 10". You could always run out an extension cable and plug in the hair dryer............just keep it dry between blasts

Same problem as me Seanie.... and the missus is doing my head in every time I run in to "borrow" the hairdryer...i see Ian King imaging (and others) offer a 4 inch heater strip which I was considering for the collection of lenes I have.

I was wondering if I positioned the Strip at the Top (not the lens end) of the Lens Hood, would this be effective in reducing the dew?

My guess says "Yes". It would heat the air around the hood and help stop it from falling onto the lens by warm air convection. I doubt that with using such a small aperture lens that air currents are going to be a problem for distortion etc.

I have been using a Kendrick strap around a 300mm telephoto lens (guidescope) for the last 4 years. I keep it at low temperature. I have never had any problems with dew or distortion of lens.
