Gordon, it could be a light pollution gradient as there were a lot of cars passing by with headlights on from the right hand side (my backgarden is really dark ) I know how to remove a gradient, but this blue still stuck

Brilliant image Keith! Just a thought about the blue colour. Would it be a light pollution gradient which affect wide field images more than narrow field ones? Ron Wodaski devotes an entire 24-page section of his book to removing Light Pollution Gradients using Photoshop.

Couldnt agree more. I observed it a couple of nights ago using a couple of different filters from my kit. I got a more defined look at the shape to it without as much nebulosity brighness.
