Looks like a whirlpool..........it really draws your eyes inwards towards the centre.
I like it.

I'm glad you all liked it. The image does yield fair amount of detail. Aperture, scaling and resolution have all contributed to this detail. Besides tracking and post processing.
Dave L,
I agree with you it is a bit grainy. I could have taken alot more exposures which may address this little issue. It would need some more experimentation as regards exposure times and the use of specific tools in the image processing.
The galaxy is near the pole and with a magnitude of 13.5 is fainter than the popular galaxies that are commonly imaged. Interestingly enough, this galaxy is one of the largest in the direction of Polaris
Keith and Mark,
Your right it is a barred spiral. What is interesting about this structure besides showing the central region as a bar in which stars orbit the centre of the galaxy not in circles as do the stars in the outer arms- but instead in "figure eights" and more complicated weave-like patterns along the axis of the bar.

It is a bit grainy.................but i dont think it's MY place to comment on that since it is a pic that i could not achieve in a life time.
Damnit..............did i just comment on the graininess of the pic?
All i know is that any pics you guys take of ANYTHING look superb to beginners like me.
I thank you all.
BTW................when the original link is fixed......................PLEASE delete my link to the image as i would hate for anyone to think that i had posted an image that was not mine.
