First Light with new DFK Video Camera! was created by Mike
First Light with new DFK Video Camera. Image of the Moon taken at ~21:00 UT.
Equipment & Method: Celestron NexStar 8SE @ F6.3 & Imaging Source DFK 41AF02.AS Firewire Camera. 23 Second AVI at 15fps, total of ~350 frames at resolution of 1280x960, AVI processed in Registax.
FOV: ~ 13 x 17 Arc Min, image scale ~ 0.8 arcsec/pix

This is my first real foray into the world of astrophotography but I am happy with my initial results in attempting to image a bright object such as the Moon and then trying for Saturn as a challenge on the same night. Trying to get all the equipment to work together is difficult in itself and then you have to contend with the imaging side, a steep learning curve for me indeed!
I also need to do some calibration on the declination axis of the Goto alt-az mount and experimenting with anti-backlash settings, my scope is a bit back end heavy so also need to do some balancing before I attempt any DSOs with longer exposures.
Clear skies
Mike

Hi Mike,
What a fine image. You did a great job on the processing and got some fine detail. it's great that DKM came out with this range of cameras.Because people have a choice now were before it was a simple webcam or a pricey Lumenera. may beLumenera will come down on the price's now that they have some computation. who knows.

Great image Mike, not sure why it's in the multiple and variable star section though.
