Exposires of about 15 seconds at ISO 1600 ... I think 'painting' the trees should work ... as long as it's not a foggy night ... definitely at an angle though rather than 'head on' .... might need a second person to help me ... one to 'paint' and one to shoot :)

It can be a two person job alright. And a bit frustrating if the other person is a bit useless with a camera. And if you decide to drive off to 'paint' for example some cliffs for the shot and then have to explain how to set the aperture over the mobile forget it!

Bart,

That is an absolutely beautiful shot and one I would be chuffed with. I can't wait to see more of this from you.

Regards and Clear Skies,

Bart, that's a lovely widefield shot that complements any clear winter night! As all the guys have said, you can be very creative with your shots, from illuminating temporarily the trees to going by a roadside, and letting a car do that for you :P

You could also put on some 'spikes' over the lens to really show up the bright stars, or maybe if your camera has the 'bulb' setting, how about exosing for 5-10 minutes at ISO 100 (LIGHT POLLUTION NOT WITHSTANDING) and record Orion rising leaving a trail behind.

Those are excellent ideas .... any suggestions for how best to make the spikes?

Bart.
