Elliptical Galaxy NGC 4486 - M87 was created by eansbro
I processed this image the other night of Elliptical Galaxy NGC 4486 - M87.
There are a couple of other galaxies captured below.
I don't know why it is so diffuse. May be this is a natural state.

Image taken on 6 February, 2008
Using 0.9m Wynne Newt.at f/4 + AP8p CCD
Exposures B 10 x 75 secs, V 10 x 60 secs, R 10 x 60 secs
Processed MIRA PRO 7.5

Eamonn, that is absolutely extraordinary. I was totally bemused as to what those granular objects scattered about were; Then it hit me, they're globular clusters, if I'm not very much mistaken. If so that is an outstanding acheivement as many of them look much more than point sources,
Outstanding work.

Eamon, that is an incredible image! You have brought out the jet like nothing I have seen anywhere before - far better than than many pro-observatories!
Dave - you're bang on - those *are* globular clusters! NGC4486 has a swarm of over 10,000 englobing it! It is just jaw-dropping to see them resolved like that!
All the other images of M87 that I have seen have the core (and jet) burned out and show little hint of the cloud of globulars. This image is properly exposed right to the heart!
Wow!
Phil.

Eamonn,
I would like to express my congrats on the jet you have managed to capture and illustrate. Nice work!

Ah Eamonn what to say, such a great image capturing one hell of an Extreme event in that "little jet".Great job
