There is some amount of activity on Jupiter all right.One planet I would love to image but as you know Jupiter is just 14deg above the horizon up here in Ireland. how high is Jupiter at the moment down under.

Hi Bird,

It's amazing how fast the storms are moving across the globe. How long do you give each channel in LRGB when imaging Jupiter considering how fast the planet is rotating.

Carl, I've not had much luck with LRGB so I stick with straight RGB. In these images I record 60 seconds in each channel, so thats 3 minutes total.

Not sure why but the straight Luminance doesn't have the same level of detail as the individual colour channels, my suspicion is that the high magnification I'm using (a 7.7x barlow on a 1.8m fl newt) introduces some chroma that becomes noticeable in white light but is not seen in narrowband filters.
