No PJ. ITS SKY VERMIN(to imagers) otherwise known as a satellite to observers.
Cheers Dave for the info. Did not think I was getting that deep with the sky still not fully dark.

I knew the ngc number was familiar, the second I saw the image, I went "oh yes, I remember this one"
Very nice Kieran, the core and dark lanes are just fab !

Anybody who says that Earthshine is reflected Sunshine is talking Moonshine.

One other thing about NGC4565.
There seems to be a bright star from our own galaxy bullseye in the middle of the image of the galaxy.
I doubt very much that the "dent" in the dust lane is an actual feature of the galaxy. More like an interloper local star between us and it.
I could be wrong though !
Anyone got a spectroscope ? That would settle it.

My favourite edge on spiral in the sky. I remember Dr. Neil Bone and I at Cosmos '06 were observing on the Friday night, using the club's 12" Dob to scan the Leo/Virgo cluster. I knew I had 4565 in the FOV, but Neil wasn't so sure. In the end, an atlas settled it, and I won!
Oh, and nice shot Kieran. As was already mentioned, there is a bit of a sense of 3D depth to it. I can only imagine, with the clarity of your image, how much better this would have looked in colour.
Seanie.
