Lakeside Summernight Milkyway Panorama

Hi all, Isn't the weather great lately ! That said, I took a trip to my favourite lakeside darksite near my home in the early hours of bank holiday monday morning. The reason I went was to test out my new Astronomik CLS type II anti light pollution filter, as looking southeast from here, there is a lot of light pollution around.

I imaged around the Scutum starclouds, and the region around M24, but the last work of the night was this stitched two shot panorama of the milkyway rising at 3.30am. Now admittedly, I really got caught by the oncoming twighlight as this is in part why this image looks so blue. The CLS filter really works well on some high clouds at bottom left, but but mainly it's the filter here. I actually find that the filter enhances red nebula here, such as M8, M17 and M16. Scorpius is to the right, with Sagittarius rising at left, M24 and the Scutum starclouds are above. Jupiter is the really prominent light to the left. It was so quiet - all I could here was the sound of the fish jumping around !!

VERY LITTLE photoshoping here, I just wanted to show how the filter works, and present the shot as is, which is what I saw on Monday morning with the oncoming twighlight.

Details: Canon 400D, 2x24mm L lens at f3.5, 2.5 minutes exposure at ISO 800. This is the jpeg scaled down version...

Lovely image Keith. Is the skyline (mostly trees by the look of it) blurred due to wind?

I think that the approach of twilight really adds something to the image, giving the sky a pleasing hue.

Jupiter looks good.

I suppose the only comment I could add weould be that the colour of the stars appear green. However, it did pick up the red nebulae nicely.
