LRGB filters - which ones? was created by TrevorDurity
Hey guys,
I'm going to try my luck with some LRGB imaging. Have a budget QHY6 CCD cam on the way in about 2 weeks with a 8nm ha filter but am wondering which rgb filters to use.
I see the Astronomiks or Astrodons seem to be the obvious choice but they are quite pricey. I'm going to stay away from the Baaders but I was wondering if anyone knew if the Meade filters are any good to start off with? The can be had quite cheap on the used market - but I don't want to order any if they turn out to be unsuitable. Will be using with an Atik filter wheel (manual).
Many thanks,
Trev

Trevor,
I would suggest you pick up an SBIG LRGB set ... they are parfocal and are made by Custom Scientific on behalf of SBIG. I picked up a set recently for $100 ... plus $12 for shipping.
I wanted these for RGB imaging (planetary) without having to use/reuse my existing set which is for DSO work.

Thanks Anthony,
I forgot about Custom Scientific. Will keep an eye out for those. Amazing deal you got there.
Cheers,
Trev

Trevor,
Mine were brand new and never used. I was delighted at the deal.
These filters do come up rather frequently since many people are upgrading to 2" filters. Do check on almost a daily basis and I am sure you will be rewarded.

Trevor - just curious, why stay away from Baader?
