Hi Carl,

Well done!

Good image for a Mars at dia.of 10 arcsec mars. I can see good detail along a distinctive terminator. Look like a wisp of white clouds. If I remember Mars was approximately over 50 degrees at near meridian in February. Do you find you can see more detail with the R band? Any idea of the scale of transparency and seeing?

If you had longer exposures eg. avi 8 minutes each channel you should obtain more detail with more choice of frames to select. Of course it all depends on transparency/seeing conditions.

Carl.
I seem to see that 'reflection' circle or
'ghost' circle again on the left hand side in that image.
It looks like some kind of stacking error or something?

I noticed the same thing in one of your earlier Mars images
(on the right hand side)

Can you see what I'm on about?

Frank,

Its the bright terminator you are looking at. This usually shows up in good images like Carl's one here. I agree, it does convey the problematic effect of an error in stacking frames, as if they have shifted out of place. There are times when Mars does exhibit this bright terminator effect ( a slight ellipse around the edge. Likewise, you'll find the other terminator (on the right, when the orientation of Mars is different to Earth) can be a distinctive dark ellipse.

Cool shot Carl. Looks like an atmospheric day there and the colours are great!
