Stacking single photographs was created by gbyrne
Hi

Managed to get a few pics of my first DSO (Ring Nebula) this evening. ( picasaweb.google.com/GSbyrne/Astro#5249716824728067874 ) Can anybody tell me how to stack them. I've stacked etc.. using Registax4 but what's best for stacking single shots?

Thanks,
Gary.

Well done.
Not an easy task.

There is a free one out there called deep sky stacker.
I've downloaded it but never tried it out although
it looks like what you need.

The final image is a tad dim. What is your set up?

Hi,

Current setup is:

Celestron 8" SCT, ASGT Mount.

Basically I polar aligned etc.. first, and went to the object, then replaced the whole back of the sct with my 300D + Connector and started to take photos.

Used remoteCapture to take photo's to get the focus correct, and then used it to take 10 singe photo's with 1 minute in between.

Was playing with the ISO settings also, and then the clouds rolled in! :-(

I was thinking it was very dim myself, and that was the best one... so any suggestions please let me know.

Im also looking down the guider route as well atm.

Any/All suggestions welcome.

Thanks,
Gary

Hi Gary,

Deep Sky Stacker is the job, far superior to anything I've used before. It also has excellent control over the curves, so once you've got your stack you can pull out whatever detail you've managed to capture even if it's quite low in the histogram.

Clear skies,

Paul.
