SKAN December 2008 Astro Photos was created by Neill
Hi all,
Congrats to Frank Ryan Jr and Anthony Ayiomamitis for getting their pics selected for the 2009 SKAN calendar. Frank's was of star trails over Poulnabrone Dolmen and Anthony's was of the Lunar Eclipse. Also well done to Kieran Rooney (Phoenix) for getting his pic of the Coathanger Asterism from September onto the CD this month.

Thanks Neill (and Kieran) for the wonderful news.
I don't know what went wrong but I also received a message from the magazine surrounding this latest honour. I hope it is a trend (the notification) that will continue.
Anthony.

Cheers Dave.

They have a weird way of operating alright.
The image I got 2nd runner up for wasn't an image of the month for the month it was published.
I'd have thought that the 12 'images of the month' would make up the calendar.
I suppose some images are just more suited for calendars or posters / media stuff
rather than the more 'technical' ones.
Hooray for being arty farty!

Frank,
I suspect your assumption is quite valid about some photos being more suitable for a calendar etc. One of the advantages for using the current dSLR's and their megapixel arrays. It is for this reason that I try and use my EOS 350D in lieu of the EOS 300D whenever possible and in spite of the fact the former has a very slightly smaller chip ... its smaller pixel leads to a greater image in terms of pixels (8 vs 6.3 Mb) and this is what magazines etc love to see.
Anthony.
