I'll say! The difference between the 4X and the 40X is HUGE in terms of throughput quality. These two examples were stored straight to the camera on the fly? And for the second one against the hillside, is the hillside included in the same number of exposures? i.e. why is it not saturated?

Yes, the writing of each image was directly onto the flash card and, hence, for my interest in having a faster card so as to minimize the delay (and gap) between frames.

As for the saturation you mention, it is not an issue since we use the Lighten blending mode to sum the exposures. To this end, the brightest the hill will ever be is the determined by the exposure and which happens to be the same for all of them during each of these two evenings.
