M42 - first attempt at LRGB imaging. was created by james335k
The bad weather this weekend has given me a chance to process some of the first images captured last wednesday night with my new Meade DSI pro 2 monochrome camera. I'm pleased enough with the results considering no darks or flats were applied to the image. There is a slight greenish cast off some stars. I'm unsure if this is a result of my poor processing skills or just false colouration of the doublet lens. It consists of 12 22sec subs in RGB and 4 in luminance. Images were combined using Deep Sky Stacker and processed in Photoshop. Scope used was a William Optics Megrez 72 on ASGT mount.

Thanks David, I'm hoping to get some darks added next time round so i'll hopefully see some improvement. :)

Thanks for the kind words wellbuttie. I'm still getting to grips with the envisage software interface. The camera has slightly higher noise levels than other cameras in its class but with subtraction of dark frames it's not noticable in the final image. It's hard to go wrong considering i paid $280 for it brand new on ebay. I'm thinking of adding a fan to help reduce the noise levels further.

Hi James,

What a great result looks like you'll have a great future in astrophotography. Here is a tip to lower the green around the stars. In photoshop go to image, adjustments, levels then you will see channels in channels you'll see RGB change this to green and make the appropriate adjustment to lower the green. Well done on the image.
