New Atik 4000 Trial Run Image was created by carlobeirnes
Hi all,
Well I have been pondering for sometime now on getting a new CCD camera, I have been using the Atik 16 hr CCD for over a year with some very nice results. It was a great camera to learn the trade with. As time went on I felt I needed a camera that would give a much bigger field of view and at the same time not lose resolution. I was looking at the SBIG10 XME for a while. Great camera but didn't give me much more FOV for the cost involved. So in the end I went for the Atik 4000 as it gave me the perfect FOV I was looking for at half the cost of the SBIG, Happy days anyway enough of that.
Here is one of my first trial run images NGC 2246 The rosette Nebula in the Constellation Monoceros it was taken on the 8th & 9th of February 2009 just a few degrees away from a full Moon 52 x 5 min exposures Darks Was 24 x 5min @ -20 deg. There is a small bit of coma in the image I'm just waiting on a spacer to arrive from Ian king. Image is at just 40% original size. I was not going to post this till I got some colour for it, but the way the weather is that could be sometime away.

Magnificent Carl, the detail is incredible. Hope we get some clear skies soon so you can get the RGB. Look forward to the final result. Hell, its a result already.

Carl, at 40% of the original size, you have captured some very fine detail there, i'm envious  sure the field of view must be about 1.5 x 1.5 degrees or so right?
