Lovely image Carl.
Are there calibration frames for each set of LRGB aswell? Was thinking about a CCD but there seems to be as much (or little) work for the same detail with the DSLR. My M45 image seems to show as much neb.

Hi Dave,
Yes all the images were dark subtracted. Also there is just 30 minute exposure in RGB total. As for CCD Vs DLSR man you could have a big debate on this all day long. DSLR’s are a great camera for astrophotography. However noise levels are considerably lower with a CCD camera. I can set the exposure for 5, 10,15, 20 even 60 min and just walk away from the CCD and let it do It’s thing, and leave it running all night long. Also CCD’s are much more sensitive then DSLR’s. I could have imaged this for much longer but the clouds had other ideas.
Carl.
Ps I would choose a CCD over a DSLR any day for Deep sky Imaging. I’m not saying DSLR’s are no good for the job, I’m saying CCD’s are much better.

Nice one Carl what are the specs on that ccd?
M45 is a fairly easy target in that it is bright so DSLR's will have very litle problem in picking up nebulosity. The same goes for M42 and a few other DSO's but once you move beyond that standard DSLR's quickly get left behind unless they are modified with a H alpha filter.
