fisheye lens was created by michaeloconnell
I'm wondering if anyone has tried one of these type of add-on fisheye lenses:
www.amazon.com/gp/product/images/B000TLV...TF8&n=502394&s=photo
I'm thinking of getting one for 180degree images of the solar eclipse.
If anyone has used one, I'd be interested to hear how good or bad it is.
Thanks,
Michael.

Interesting.
Seems similar in design to one of the
telephoto / macro add on lenses for camcorders.
Seems from the reviews that you have to buy some
other attachments to make it fit onto existing lenses.
But look how cheap it is!

Image quality might be rubbish.
Can't lose too much I suppose though.
it would just need an adapter ring to screw onto whichever lens you have.
Michael.
That's what worries me in some ways. But look how cheap it is!

I would be very surprised if they did not have a large amount of
fringing and / or chromatic aberration.
The fact that it's an add on to an existing lens is also eyebrow raising,
something I did not spot first time.
But you'd never know,
if you took a wide angle shot for the eclipse
(and lets face it, how many times will you do that?)
it may be worth it.
sometimes it's the shot that counts rather than
the technical perfection of it.
As the old saying go's
''F8 and be there'' eh?
(lucky sod)

I was going to get a lens like that many years ago, they certainly give a unique image.
Like all lenses, if they are cheap then there is a reason, the only way would be to buy it and flog it off it its not up to the job, you're not necessarily looking for good star point images near the horison with it if you thinking of a solar eclipse, so long as the image is not full of chromatic abberation then it might be ok.

I got a Sigma 8mm f/4 to use on this upcoming eclipse. It needs a FF camera for a 180 deg view but my friend is giving me the lend of his 5D.
I'll let you know how it goes
