Dear group,
In spite of a noticeable wind as well as average seeing, I sat down last night to pursue the dark nebula B133 in Aquilla. I wish I had taken a few more luminance subs but at least I now have a baseline reference image for a future visit. For a result based on just two hours total time, please see www.perseus.gr/Astro-DSO-Nebulae-Dark-B133.htm (the image is hyperlinked and leads to a higher analysis version of the same).
Anthony.

Anthony - that's some crowded starfield! Really brings out the dark nebula.
Out of interest, I see that certainly the bright stars have a bright core with a dimmer "halo" around them - as opposed to pinpoint stars. Is this a function of the imager/optical train or processing? Just curious - its a beautiful image alright.

Hi Dave,
Glad you like the image.
The halos you see and note are due to internal reflections with the filters themselves and is common with especially bright stars. If you recall my photo involving Mirach's Ghost - perseus.gr/Astro-DSO-NGC-0404.htm - we have precisely the same effect at work.
On a related note, the first generation filters from AstroDon are precisely known for this effect and which really becomes apparent with fast scopes (ex. Tak FSQ 106/f5). It is for this reason that we now have the second generation of the AstoDons.
Personally, I really like these halos since they add an element of pretty picture to our result.
Anthony.
