Jupiter 00.25am - 22nd August 2009 was created by wellbuttie
Grabbed this image of Jupiter and friends in the early hours. The seeing was pretty bad in this neck of the woods.

I also tried with a barlow, however, that quality was not too good. Would a 2X Powermate make any differnce??????

Thanks

Steve

Very nice shot Steve-especially when Jupiter is still fairly low down

Very nice Steve.
I wa sout myself and it looks the same as the view, noce belts and zones, no GRS, the 2 moons are nice.

A powermate is a type of barlow, I dont think it would make a differance really unless you were using a significantly inferior barlow in the first place.
The point about a powermate is that its power (2x or 3x whatever) is independent of the distance between the lens/camera and the powermate lens.
For a 2x barlow, it's is only a 2x barlow for a certain fixed distance between the barlow lens and camera/eyepiece, extend the distance and it becomes a 2.5x or 3x barlow or more. This doesn't happen with the powermates (except the 5x powermate apparently).

Thanks for that Dave....

I was attempting to use an Orion Shorty 2x Barlow, which seemed to reduce the actual contrast of the image, when viewing it on the monitor. I was wondering was this as a result of the seeing, or perhaps, maybe it was dispersing the light and thus affecting the contrast. I was wondering would a 2x powermate, be a worthy investment?

The non-barlow version at 200 percent actually looks better than the 2x barlow version.

That is an excellent image of Jupiter and moons.
Nicely processed.

If you have a good quality barlow, then no real need for a powermate I reckon.
