Could be a strong element of perpendicularity of the chip to the focal plane alright then... Trouble is, I'm not sure how you'd fix it.

Is the field flattener just flattening the field? Or is it also acting as a focal reducer too? I wonder how the scope would perform without it...

One means you could try, at least to characterise if/what the problem is, is CCDInspector ( www.ccdware.com/downloads/ )

You can download a trial version - it doesn't say how long the trial is for but I'd imagine 30 days at the least. I've been meaning to do it myself for months but with the weather and all...

I reckon that with a few tweaks, guided by CCDInspector, I could make some significant improvements. All we need is a couple of clear nights, preferably over a weekend...

By the way, I forgot to ask, why are you imaging galaxies? Get hold of some of them NEO's and do some *real* work! ;)

Hi all,

I've been getting a few grumbles about the size of the image and peoples monitors so here is a reduced sized image.

For some reason I can't make the image any bigger on this website

Superb image Carl, you should add a link to the 'full, bigger, uncut' version of that image. Detail like this should be explored!
