Frank,
I did the same for long time! :silly:
I always exported the location image from google and put a similar transparent
compass in photoshop and then thought to import the image instead and worked.
Another good idea is to check the location place before -maybe months and
observe the stars above or around the "target".
Then you know the most important: Declination!!! :woohoo:
And you wait them, Sun-Moon on the right day!

I downloaded your compass, thanks for sharing!
It works great.

On the day of the Moon shots I took I attached my compass
to the front of the eyepiece, I used the Manfrotto geared head to
get the bubble level then I was able to move the camera around
and it showed me where it was pointing.

I was lucky on the day as there was a good deal of cloud
on parts of the horizon (as always here!)

I think it's time to get my plan of action
nailed down and be ready next time!

Hey All,
after a long time we found out that we could upload a png format picture in google earth!
You may download the new transparent compass:

www.astrovox.gr/forum/download.php?id=16897

and do not try to make transparent the white color of the old compass in jpg format ;)
since there is a partial total eclipse eclipse and a total lunar during 2011,
this might be helpful!
*I've just saw that you'll probably miss the total lunar one and
the partial solar will be visible on the sunrise.

Greeting from Greece,
Yiannis
