Dear group ... and Kieran,
We were very fortunate to have relatively very good conditions for this evening's partial lunar eclipse and which was a great way to end the year, the decade as well as IYA 2009.
Although the depth was only 8%, the moon's partial entry into the umbral shadow was quite obvious both naked eye as well as through the telescope at high power. For a time series with exposures spaced 30 minutes apart and which documents the moon's entry into the penumbra and umbra as well as its consequent exit, please see www.perseus.gr/Astro-Eclipses-2009-12-31b.htm .
Best wishes to everyone for the New Year filled with health and prosperity!
Anthony.

Anthony - I'm impressed.
Your approach of layering the timesequence with Earth's shadow in single place really conveys what's happening - but in addition quite beautiful.

Thanks Frank. It is now back up. I suspect they had a temporary server problem since the hosting company and its web page was also down.
Maybe, just maybe, Seanie Morris pulled the power switch. That guy is nothing but trouble.
Anthony.

You could be right!
come to think of it,
I often see him at star parties,
sitting in the the corner rolling the end of
his handle bar moustache between finger and thumb chuckling in an
evil fashion and looking all menacing-like....
He's so mauve you never know what he's planing.
