Some Winter favourites was created by johnomahony
Here are a few shots that I managed to take last night. Boy was it cold. My camera battery started to pack in before I could get more frames. I have only crudely processed the images at this point. All were taken with a WO Megrez 72and unmodded Canon 450D on a CGE without guiding.

Wow John, those are very nice shots indeed, your definitely getting the hang of it.
That scope is proving its worth.

Grand unprocessed winter set there John.
What kind of numbers of lights, darks, flats etc are you running
with those?
Did you use the CLS filter.
I suspect it's use on M42.

Thanks Guys

I did use the CLS filter. A necessary evil as I have a sodium light facing due south where these shots were taken. For M42 and the horsehead I had 13 x 5 minute frames for each picture. For M45 it was 10 x 3 minutes frames. All unguided at ISO 800. Two dark frames used for each picture. My camera battery died before I could take any flats - so no flats used. Man was it cold last night. I bought a new spare battery today !!. If it's clear tomorrow I will try and take another 12 -15 frames of the horsehead and get some flats taken. I was surprised how easy the horsehead was to photograph with such a small scope and an unmodded camera. The individual 5 minute frames clearly show the horse silhouette from my backyard with the Limerick city lights and a sodium light directly due south.

Wow, John, nice work. Can't wait to see the final results, especially on the M42 Orion shot. Hurry up!

What do you mean by taking them "on a CGE without guiding"? Did you have motor function but no guidescope?
