Horsehead and Flame Nebula was created by wellbuttie
Horsehead and Flame Nebula. Twas rather cold last night, however, I set my sights on this target. After setting up and aligning, it unfortunately was at the meridian so after a bit of waiting this is the result.

Taken with a Canon 350D, Megrez90 Scope and 12nm HA Filter. 12 x 600 Second Exposures. Cherrymount, Waterford, Ireland
On a different note, the Lunt Solar Scope, I ordered nearly 2 years ago, arrived yesterday by taxi. Set it up today, and then the clouds rolled in....... Clouds for at least a month eh!!!!! My bad!!!

Steve
This is a really beautifull shot - I mean it.
However, do you know why the very bright (brightest) star at the top of the frame is egg shaped?
I realy have no idea as to what this is - something obvious that has escaped me?

Very nice Steve. That HA filter looks the biz.

Hi Steve,
That is a very good image focus is really very good as is the detail. You should however try having a go at multi layer deconvolution using multiple layers, do you remember white to reveal and black to conceal.
It works great with the Horse head and would also help a lot with the contrast on the flame nebula. This would also enable you to pull out much more detail and to sharpen the Horse head without affecting the rest of the image.
Carl.
Ps.
Maybe if ifas have another astrophotography workshop we can go into multi layer deconvolution In more detail .
