A question for the eggheads... was created by dmcdona
Folks,
I've taken a series of CBVRI images of a globular cluster (clear and BVRI photometric filters).
I have a *reasonable* knowledge of photoshop (version 7).
How do I get a "colour" image from these CBVRI images?
Cheers
Dave
p.s. I understand that I *might* only be able to map to LRGB and so may lose one of the filtered sets - which one?

By the way, if this can be done just in MaximDL, even better (no need for Photoshop - or at least not until final processing....)

Hi Dave,
Have a look at:
www.3towers.com/sGrasslands/ImageGallery/ImageGalleryMain.asp
Great to see you have a set of photometric filters. Hope you can
do some variable star photometry.

If you get rid of the tag of the URL the link should open.

Dave,
I do my colour combines in Photoshop and as such this is a trivial question.
We have the following ....
(1) load your three (or four) monochrome images into PS as separate images
(2) go to the window with the three tabs LAYERS, CHANNELS, PATHS and activate/choose Channels
(3) click on the right arrow on the far right of the window and choose MERGE CHANNELS
(4) you will have a pop-window appear and where you can choose a three-colour (RGB ) or four-color combine (CMYK). For my work, I choose RGB (for mode) and "3" for channels and follow with "OK"
(5) a new pop-up window appears and where you specify which of the images you loaded into Photoshop corresponds to each of the three (or four) channels. PS takes a stab by guessing and using the order the files were loaded but it is a good idea to check and make sure the correspondence is correct
If you have any problem, please do not hesitate to let me know.

John - that's spot on - thanks. I'll take a good read of that and see if I can process by CBVRI images.
I'm just getting my head around using my automation software (ACP) with filters. I've actually had the filters for a couple of years now without using them  But I'm now ready to forge ahead into the wonderful word of photometry with minor planets and variable stars (e Aurigae for example) on the cards. I've still a way to go though but I'm hoping to make good progress, even during the summer, in preparation for production season next autumn. So thanks again.
Anthony - they're great tips. I'll try them out and see how I get on!
If they're are any more eggheads out there, chip in!
Dave
