Full disk 23rd May 2010 was created by wellbuttie
Trying to get back into the swing of things, just after getting home from working abroad again. A full disk version of our nearest Star "the Sun" or "Sol" on the 23rd of May 2010. Some solar flare activity active, as well as AR 1072 on the surface. A stack of the "best" out of 24,000 frames, using a Lunt DS Solar Telescope and DMK Camera.

Taken from Cherrymount, Waterford, Ireland

Thanks for looking

Many thanks for the encouragement Dave,

It is indeed a mosaic, The camera is a DMK 31Af03.AS, and with the size of the chip, I cannot capture the full disk of the Sun in one go, at the 500mm Focal Length of the Lunt.

For the Solar Surface, I image it in "Quarters" and run off 3000 frames per quarter, stack the best 90% or so and then, it results in 4 images that need to be stitched together.

I then do the same process for the Proms/Fares on the Solar Limb, with the settings on the camera chaged to overexpose the surface, but bring out the flares.

One of the interesting things about trying to "stitch" the Prominance images is that none of my dedicated "Panorama" software can actually do the job, it seems as if the software cannot figure out the "common" areas, so I have to use Photoshop to piece these images together.

Any tips very welcome Dave.

Cheers

Steve

Not really much to say Steve....

Dont waste your time, take 700 frames and keep 300-400. Should be well enuf to do any processing. When u do your first prom animation theyll have to be short bursts anywy.

For my large mosaics I use PS too as u say none of the others can handle it.

Hint u can adjust levels or curves for ea indiv pane but not the hole img by -
select the layer that yur gonna work on
Select layer/new adjustment layer/either levels, curves etc
when the window opens click ok
on the layers panel -move the cursor between the img layer and the adj layer
hold down alt until the cursor changes shape
left click
now the levels (curves etc) will only work with the layer below and not the hole img - this should help in blending panes.

If u can, img in the early morning b4 heat causes turbulence.
