Dave,
What kind of steel are you using? I shall shop around for some.
I have an area on my acre where I shall start leveling to put my foundation down. Being in Kerry, bedrock is not a problem but the leveling of it is.

James,
When you compare this image to your other one, is alot of the blue in this one sky glow?
The reason I ask is that your more recent image shows the nebulosity in a much more defined way.
BTW, any chance you could send some clear skies up here??

Michael,
Did you select the wrong tab ??
James,
I wasn't finicky about the steel type, as long as it was heavy.
As long as the concrete your pillar sits on is roughly level, that good enough, as you do precise levelling with the top plate, well atleast in the setup I've got here. I figured I wouldn't be able to get the concrete base "water bubble" level.
One thing to keep in mind is that I picked a tube 6 feet long, this left me with the option of burying 3 feet of it in solid concrete should the need arise.
I'd rather not do this as I would need high explosives to get it out of the ground if I ever moved house. which would probabily take out the adjacent wall and every window within 100yards. .

Yes, sky glow it was. The Pleiades were almost at zenith and the sun was not long set. I guess I just couldn't wait. Too keen to experiment.
I'm a little greedy with clear skies so will hold onto them for as long as possible.
