Michael, they are simply stunning images. What equipment did you use? Is the detached flare unusual. I cannot say that I have ever seen such an image. Very well done.

Conn/Dave,

Image taken with front-mounted Coronado 90 mm eatlon on my TEC140 with a BF10 blocking filter at the rear. Camera was DMK21. I recorded a 2,000 frame uncompressed avi video which was processed with Avistack2 to generate a sharpened stacked single tiff image. This tiff image was then processed in Photoshop to enhance the contrast and add the colour.

Last year I was using the daystar filter. However, it operates at a fairly high focal length and so requires good seeing to get the most out of. So far this year, the seeing seems to be worse than last year so I have stuck with the Coronado 90mm - the coronado filter operates at the native telescope focal length, which in my case is 980mm.
However, if you look at the close-up shot of the prom (3rd image) I used a 2x barlow with that. Combination of seeing and approaching the limiting resolution of a 90mm filter have meant that I didn't capture the detail as fine as I would prefer.

As far as the detatched prom is concerned, it's the first time I've seen anything like that. Pretty spectacular event when you see the Earth to scale. The amount of matter and energy involved must be phenomenal.
