This was done by a former club member of mine in Melbourne. He recently won the top astrophotography prize at STARMUS , got a free trip to Teneriffe, an hour on the telescope and got to meet Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, a few of the pioneering cosmonauts and several nobel laureates. Green with envy we all were :x
This isn't the winning video.

That's awesome. I've had a few trial runs with a Canon 500D at time lapse stuff and it's tricky enough to get the exposure correct if I try to capture dusk and night or night and dawn.
Still, the results can be quite beautiful so I think I'll invest more time in it.
