Computer Monitor Reviews - Processing was created by michaeloconnell
Just wondering if anyone has come across a set of reviews of computer monitors specifically for astrophotography processing?
Michael.

I looked for some reviews but didn't find any. Carl posted a link on his system a few months back.
I picked up a Samsung Syncmaster A350 a few weeks ago but have not tried it yet

Hi,
Here is a good article on monitors for photography processing - mansurovs.com/best-monitor-for-photography
Ideally you want an IPS panel which has better colour reproduction than a TN panel.
A good cheap IPS panel is the Asus ML239H which is available for under €200 from Komplett and once calibrated it should be capable of reproducing the sRGB colour space.
Hope this helps

Hey Michael,
I think if you search for a list of the best monitors for any kind of image or video processing work, they'll be more than up to the task. Some stuff I would look out for is a genuine high dynamic contrast ratio, good brightness and a large screen. I can personally testify to the excellent performance of Dell monitors and the monitors on all Apples are fantastic. Samsung and HP are also brilliant lower cost alternatives.
The best way to choose a monitor however is to see them in use side by side in store and buying the one that has the best picture. It's also important to calibrate your monitor correctly. You may have a great monitor but if it isn't calibrated your work may appear different in terms of brightness and colour saturation on other peoples monitors.

Michael,
The LG IPS231P was award the Best Entry Level Photo Monitor in the TIPA and costs only €167 on dabs.ie.
BTW, brightness is not a good measure of a monitor, most monitors will have a brightness of 200 cd/m2 but once calibrated, the brightness will only be around 120 cd/m2.
Also I have very wary of high dynamic contrast ratios, the human eye can only see contrast ratios of up to 1,000,000:1, anything beyond this is lost. Also, it is some hardware/software dynamically altering the backlighting which for processing would not be ideal as you want your monitor's contrast ratios to be static for the duration of any processing work.
