With the clear skies last night I just couldn't help try the 450D on Orion. Can't believe I have this thing over a year and haven't had chance to use it while Orion was up before. Only got about 10x2 minute shot + various shorter exposures for core and trap due to having to cover up to avoid all the quick showers but quite pleased with the result.
One thing I'm struggling with is getting the colour balance right with the modded cam. It's a bit of a learning curve for me after using a stock 30D.Gotta brush up on those PS skills methinks.

Oh, this was using the Megrez 90 and ASGT. Diffraction spikes were added using Noel Carboni's PS actions.

Gorgeous image Trevor, lots of detail in the nebula, and very pleasing colours (to my eye). Are you pleased with the modded camera - it seems to make a massive difference?

Hey Mike. Ta. I haven't done any comparisons but it does seem to be quite a bit more sensitive than the 30D, which I think required much longer subs - it was a couple of years ago the last time I imaged m42 so can't confirm. Everything comes out red of course but the white balance can be adjusted if using RAW. The stock camera gave a much more blue/violet hue and fewer reds.
Overall a much better camera for astro imaging even considering it's age. Shouldn't have waited so long to get one
