Hi manic_dave,
I have not used it before but it does look like a very 'entry level' cam.
I would say that your Canon 1100D would be much handier and easier to image with if not a bit better then the minitron.

HI Graham,
The DSLR is great for shots of the stars and deep space, but the HD ( well half HD ) video on it come in on some strange kind of quicktime movies.
Trying to get that into AVI so that registacks can play with it is proving fun!
Im looking at an entry level CCD, the celestron one for 179 looks like a good bet. Just saw this one and thought it might be ok.

You should be able to just convert it using 'Format Factory' '

', but converting anything from its original format is not ideal I would say. However you should at least give it a go and see what you get! :)
Most webcams and imager's require to be connected to a pc and I 'think' most people use 'AmCap' or 'SharpCap' to capture the avi files, I have a feeling that if you connect your DSLR using the usb cable you should be able to use it as a glorified webcam!
