Noctilucent clouds, possibly was created by dave_lillis
Hi,
I happened to be out in the garden watching the Moon and Venus set when I noticed this to the north west.

farm8.staticflickr.com/7220/7264334954_2d0e76afc9_b.jpg

It was physically very big but also very faint, I'm not 100% convinced it not high altitude contrails or something to that effect, if others saw it then it's a NLC, if not then its a local cloud event :(
Colour is right, the only thing is its a bit early in the summer for them....
Anyone else see them ?

Hi Dave,

Nice image. I was out looking for nlc's when you posted this. I didn't notice anything oblivious. After seeing your post i headed back out with my camera. Visually there did seem to be a hint of them there. However, when i turned my camera on the area the suspect structures did not appear to be shining. I think that they are not NLCs. I have only seen two displays last summer so i am no expert. The structures where different in my photos as well. It was a bit later so i could still be wrong.

I can't wait to seem the first big display of the summer, if we get one. I have been out every night this week hoping they would have an appearance but no joy. Just have to be patient!

All best,

Brendan

thanks for the reply Brendan, I did have a look again just after I made the post and it had all but dissipated, whatever it was it didn't last long. When I imaged it, some parts of it did have that ripple structure you do sometimes see in NLC's and it was very very visually faint, alot fainter then the image indicates, but who knows.... :S

I'd have to say contrails Dave. I've been keeping an eye out during the good weather to no avail.
They are back alright though, John Mc Connell imaged them on the 27th.
Veeeery faint display but there none the less.
You can see the image on SW.

Dave, Best time to start looking is usually after 1215am,Will be low on the horizon no doubt this early is the season. I spotted this display as early as June 1st last year

yea, I'd have to agree, the timing and altitude is all wrong, had me hoping for a while though, we'll keep an eye out
someday I might get to see one like this from 6 years ago again sometime

was easily the most dramatic NLC's I've ever seen in terms of shapes, see
