modded dslr issue? was created by TrevorDurity
Hey guys,
Wonder if one of you with a modded Canon cam have come across this problem before.
I picked up an IR-filter removed 450D a couple of years ago. Used it a couple of times on a megrez 90 with good success but recently tried some widefields (very widefield at 8mm on a fisheye and 10mm on the canon 10-22) and for some reason I can't get to infinity - almost gets there but still needs a bit more travel. Same lenses work perfectly on my unmodded 7D though.
No focus correction on a 450D unfortunately. Just wondering if this is normal and they should only be used on scopes?
Thanks,
Trev

Hi Trev,
Do you know if the IR-Filter was just removed or was it replaced with a clear/pass filter to bring the reflective index back to 'normal'?
What you could try and do is take a photo with a small enough aperture ~F/8 - F/11+ to get more depth of field and this 'might' bring objects into focus...
I have a 350D IR and although its in focus through the viewfinder the focus itself dosent really get sharp until its stopped down a bit on some, not all lenses.

and on some lenses you get a 'Hot Spot' in the centre from different element configurations of different lenses.

Thanks for the response Graham. Yep that's the problem. It's a removal only. I knew it would kill autofocus but didn't expect the issue with reaching focus. Reading Hutech's page confirmed the issue.
I hadn't noticed before as I was using it for deep sky with the scope or longer lenses like the 70-200. Only realised when making widefields of the milky way. Must try and pick up a filter replacement from our friends at ts - this one looks like it will do the job - www.teleskop-express.de/shop/product_inf...0D-600D-1000D-1.html
In the meantime I'll try stopping down on a tracking mount (if the clouds go away!)
thanks again.
