You have heard wrong! Adobe is absolutely not providing free copies of CS2 or any of its software!
What is true is that Adobe is terminating the activation servers for CS2 and that for existing licensed users of CS2 who need to reinstall their software, copies of CS2 that don’t require activation but do require valid serial numbers are available. (Special serial numbers are provided on the page for each product download.)
In other words, if you download the product and don't currently have CS2, etc. then you are using an illegal copy and this is software theft. As long as people are aware of this, then we (IFAS) cannot condone the actions of individuals.

Their site states nothing about that, and the fact that they have published a valid license for the product also clearly indicates that they are giving this away for free

Adobe do not expect people to be calling Adobe for support on these products.
There is no evidence on the Adobe site of any Limitation and this is the reason why....apparently.....from an Adobe representative
