Hey all,
I was out last night catching the Saturn, ISS and ATV and after I finished up, I noticed some NLC's hugging the very northern horizon, only saw these when I went upstairs and looked out the side window.
They were very low and fairly bright and obvious, so out came the camera.

That's actually a better view than I got Dave - the display was obviously present, but there was a lot of much lower cloud in front of it. Being on an early start today I took no pics.

Brilliant sight, Dave. I saw them last night also for the 1st time in my life!! I driving on the N4 in County Dublin and I could see them very low in the northern sky at approximately 00.30. They were very silvery blue in colour.
With the unaided eye, my friend Emelyn and I saw the ISS twice and a -3 iridium flare in Leixlip.

Aubrey.

Thanks Larneastro,
Nice one Aubrey, there is definitely a pattern to the NLC's this year, looks like if you can stay up past 2am then you'll see them on the low northern horison. Bit of a difference to a few years back where you'd see them in the north west soon after sunset.

I'm lucky in the sense that my place is on a hill and is fairly elevated compared to the rest of the city, so I can see alot pf the sky from my upstairs windows.

They were out again this morning, brightest and longest in width I have seen them this year yet, and I had my 350D to capture them when I got home (3 am), but what could I not find to take the shot? My tripod!
