Pelican Nebula IC5070 Last Night was created by stang
Hi again - two clear nights in a row???!! And maybe a few more to come :bigshock: - fingers crossed. Even though it's never properly dark it's still pretty decent between 12 and 3 where I am.
Here's a quick stack and process of the Pelican Nebula from last night - 2hrs 50mins (17x600sec subs). I need to spend a lot longer on the post processing to bring out some better detail but I still don't know how to use the programs properly so it'll take some time!

Hi Gareth,
Congratulations on a great capture. There are a lot of positives to be taking form the image; your framing is excellent as is the detail and processing witch is not easy. The image also has great death of field to it.
Now here is the constructive part.
One thing to work on is the contrast as the image is a bit two dark this link will give you some insight www.astropix.com/HTML/J_DIGIT/DIGTECHS.HTM
This link will give you an understanding of the working of colour balancing using Photoshop and is very useful myastroimages.com/Astro_Imaging_Tutorial...and_Levels/index.php
You are doing some great work out in the field witch is showing in the images. Getting the basics right makes processing much easier.
Well done and Clear Skies,
Carl O’Beirnes.

This, and the crescent nebula, are cracking images Gareth, especially bearing in mind that they were obtained from an urban location. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the comments guys! --- Very interesting in your link Carl that Lodriguss recommends to move the white point, great advice - I'm normally too nervous about clipping but I masked the stars and gave it a go - didn't give it too much welly as it started getting very noisy
